Empowering Young Leaders: YACAP’s National Youth Leadership Summit 5.0

Youth Leading the Way towards Sustainable Peace

The Youth and Children’s Advocacy Panel (YACAP) has taken the lead in transforming young people into youth ambassadors for peacebuilding and conflict resolution through its flagship program, the National Youth Leadership Summit. This year’s summit, themed “Youth Leadership for Peacebuilding and Conflict Resolution,” aimed to empower 500 young people to become peace ambassadors in their communities.

Peacebuilding and Leadership: A Two-Day Summit

The two-day event, held at the House of Parliament on August 19th and 20th, was a resounding success. Day one featured inspiring keynote addresses, innovative presentations, and panel discussions on localizing peacebuilding and youth in leadership for sustainable development. The mayor of Freetown, Yvonne Aki-Sawyerr OBE, commended the efforts of the planning team and emphasized the important role young people can play in maintaining peace and stability in the nation.

Day two was a show of energy as young people hiked through Leicester Peak Hill, networking and building synergy among delegates. The hike was an interactive session in an informal space, where young people made commitments to take the peace message to their various communities.

Summit Success: YACAP Expresses Gratitude and Looks to the Future

YACAP extends its gratitude to partners, speakers, and delegates for making the summit a success. Special thanks go to the Mayor of Freetown for gracing the event as the keynote speaker.

The summit renewed and refreshed the status of young people, suggesting innovative approaches for sustainable development. A position paper will soon be presented to the necessary institutions.

With the theme “Youth Leadership For Peace Building and Conflict Resolution,” the National Youth Leadership Summit 5.0 has inspired a new generation of young leaders to take the lead in peacebuilding and conflict resolution.
